About Us Rev. Chris S. Hodges, preacher/teacher of Abiding Above Ministries, is a devoted family man. He and his wife Kellie have a beautiful daughter, Maclaren, whom God led them to adopt from Russia this past April 2005. Chris was born in Clarksdale, MS. His parents, Curtis and Nancy Hodges, provided a Christian home and environment. At the young age of 6, Chris put his trust where God put his sins, on Jesus. “I was soon baptized and began to have my quiet time and regular times of family devotions in the evenings. I am truly grateful for a wonderful mother and father.” --Rev. Chris S. Hodges When he was 26 years old, after a time of being out of fellowship with the Lord, he began to understand the message of God’s grace to a greater degree, and because of this, he rededicated his life to the Lord. His desire for prayer and Bible reading was renewed and he began to grow as a Christian once again. Later, while working as an engineer for the railroad Chris began to understand the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer (Christ in you). This had a profound impact on him. He began to be used of God in soul winning and counseling. This is when he began to sense God calling him into the ministry. After seeking counsel from Dr. Stephen Olford, and others, he felt encouraged to pray about enrolling in seminary, which he did. During his years at Mid-America Seminary, Chris began to understand the Christian’s position in Christ, but not in the usual way you would think a seminary student would learn this wonderful and freeing truth. God used the pictures in a children’s Bible study course to reveal to him the unsearchable riches that are found, in Christ. “I’m still to this day in awe and excited by this truth. I share it often and God uses me to help defeated Christians with the message of Galatians 2:20 and Colossians 3:1-3.” Chris has served with Dr. Adrian Rogers as Minister of Pastoral Care at the 29,000 member Bellevue Baptist Church for over six years. Over the years, the Holy Spirit has led Chris to refine his message to these simple truths, “Christ Died for You” to the lost and “You Died with Christ” to the believer. Chris’ overwhelming desire is to see people saved and to see revival among our brothers and sisters in Christ. These two facts are the foundation and the reason for the forming of Abiding Above Ministries. “I talked with my Pastor about this and he said he could see God stirring my heart towards full time evangelism and told me to fast and pray and keep walking with God to see if the burning desire would cease. It has not and it is stronger than ever. I went back to Dr. Rogers after a year had gone by and told him of my decision to pursue full time evangelism. He said, ‘Chris, if the desire is still there and strong, you need to get out of the boat and trust God with providing for you.’” Since leaving Bellevue’s Pastoral Care Staff, Chris has led a Tent Crusade in Memphis, TN, a Pastors Conference, revival, and leadership seminar in El Salvador. He is preaching revivals across the United States, including speaking in prisons in Arkansas and Georgia seeing many saved and leading spiritual growth retreats for small groups and marriage conferences. Chris has preached overseas pastor’s conferences and evangelistic and revival crusades in both Central and South America. Rev. Hodges and his family continue to reside in the Memphis area and make their home church Bellevue Baptist where his wife teaches a class for young girls and Chris teaches the Encouragers Class, a large coed class, when he is in town. What others are saying about Chris Hodges… “Chris is a long time member of Bellevue Baptist Church and has also served with me on our staff for over 6 years as Minister of Pastoral Care. He is gifted and has the heart of an evangelist. We recommend him to you as he fulfills God’s call on his life to share the gospel with every person and to encourage spiritual growth in every believer.” --Dr. Adrian Rogers, Pastor Emeritus, Bellevue Baptist Church |
